Un cabo suelto cuenta la historia de un personaje que cruza la frontera uruguayo-argentina con la ilusión de hacer desaparecer las huellas de su vida pasada. Es una película acerca de la búsqueda de un nuevo destino, la ilusión de ser otra persona y, a la vez, la dificultad de concretar esa utopía de diluir el territorio. Ese entre-lugar, mucho más que la necesidad del cambio en si, es lo que caracteriza a nuestro protagonista, que conocerá el amor, la aventura y el peligro en la frontera. Como relato de frontera en el término más amplio, Un cabo suelto es también una película que se sitúa en la frontera de varios géneros: comedia romántica, western, road-movie y suspenso policial. Lo que inicialmente me impulsó a escribir esta historia fue la imagen de un hombre camuflándose para escapar, para atravesar los límites sin un destino preciso. El protagonista, Santiago, cruza la frontera hacia Uruguay, un destino para él desconocido. Se va dejando llevar por circunstancias tras verse envuelto en un asunto policial. Luego entendí que lo que más me movilizaba era la fantasía de romper ese límite o frontera, de diluir la idea de vivir en tránsito o de la mudanza y convertir ese trayecto en un territorio continuo.
A Loose End tells the story of a character who crosses the Uruguayan-Argentine border with the hope of making the traces of his past life disappear. It is a film about the search for a new destiny, the illusion of being another person and, at the same time, the difficulty of realizing that utopia of diluting the territory. That between-place, much more than the need for change itself, is what characterizes our protagonist, who will experience love, adventure and danger on the border. As a frontier story in the broadest sense, A Loose End is also a film that sits on the border of several genres: romantic comedy, western, road movie and police thriller. What initially prompted me to write this story was the image of a guy camouflaging himself to escape, to cross the limits without a precise destination. The protagonist, Santiago, crosses the border into Uruguay, a destination unknown to him. He lets himself be carried away by circumstances, after being involved in a police matter. Then I understood that what moved me most was the fantasy of breaking that limit or border, of diluting the idea of living in transit or moving, and turning that journey into a continuous territory.

Daniel Hendler nació en Montevideo en 1976. Es actor, director y guionista. Protagonizó numerosos largometrajes por los que recibió premios en numerosos festivales (Berlín, Lima, Biarritz, Lleida, Bafici, entre otros). Dirigió algunos cortos y colaboró en guiones cinematográficos de Daniel Burman, Ariel Winograd y Natalia Meta. En 2010 estrenó su primer largometraje como guionista y director, NORBERTO APENAS TARDE, producida por Cordón Films, ganadora del premio TVE de Cine en Construcción en San Sebastián, además de numerosas distinciones internacionales. En 2016 incursionó en la dirección televisiva con GUIA 19172, serie de tv sobre la regulación del cannabis en Uruguay (ganadora del premio a Mejor Serie Web en el Festival Audiovisual GRABA y Mejor Guión en los Rome Web Awards). También escribió, dirigió y protagonizó las series LA DIVISIÓN (2017) y LOS DEMONIOS (2018, Premio Star Amets en Bilbao SeriesLand). EL CANDIDATO (2016), su segundo largometraje como guionista y director, fue ganador del premio a Mejor Director del Festival Internacional de Miami Mejor Guión del Festival de Cine La Havana de Nueva York y. Mejor Coproducción en el Festival Latinoamericano de San Pablo, entre otros reconocimientos.
Daniel Hendler was born in Montevideo on January 3, 1976. He is an actor, director and screenwriter. He starred in numerous feature films and received for them numerous awards at several festivals (Berlin, Lima, Biarritz, Lleida, Bafici and others). He directed some short films and collaborated on film scripts by Daniel Burman, Ariel Winograd and Natalia Meta. In 2010 he released his first feature film as a screenwriter and director, NORBERTO’S DEADLINE, produced by Cordón Films, winner of the TVE Award in San Sebastian, in addition to numerous international distinctions. In 2016 he ventured into television directing GUIA 19172, a TV series about the regulation of cannabis in Uruguay, winner of several awards in specialized festivals. He also wrote, directed and starred the series THE DIVISION (2017) and THE DEMONS (2018), Star Amets Award in Bilbao SeriesLand. THE CANDIDATE (2016), his second feature film as screenwriter and director, was the winner of the Best Director award at the Miami International Festival, Best Screenplay at the New York Havana Film Festival and Best Coproduction in San Pablo Latin American Film Festival, among other recognitions.
